BeFRAIL

BeFRAIL proposes a transdisciplinary approach to human frailty, rooted in the archaeological context of the hospital cemetery of the Venerável Ordem Terceira de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, in Porto. Between 1801 and 1869, the city lived the paradox of resistance and collapse: amidst the scars of the Napoleonic Invasions, the endurance of the Siege of Porto, and the invisible trail of cholera, the bodies of these people preserved the history of our own vulnerability. Archaeological heritage is, in itself, a fragile survivor. By caring for these remains, we are caring for our own history. The care we dedicate to the past is what keeps us connected across the centuries.
